A Whole Other Ball Game

Chances are, if you like FM2007 you also play Pro Evo in its latest incarnation PES6. If you do, these links can provide you with option files correcting names, kits and badges (especially for the Premiership). Sorry bout this deviation, back to FM:

Fun with spreadsheets

An interesting thread on the boards, comparing different tactics is a good read.

The winning formula

How many times have you seen on the SI Forums that some guy created another “super tactic”, just to find out that what he did was to win the Premiership with Chelsea? Lets face it. With Chelsea, Liverpool, Man Utd or Arsenal, you can play pretty much any system and still be succesful. The tricky bit is to create a tactic that actually works with the players you have in a squad that doesnt include Drogba, Terry or Lampard. Which means that if you manage Brighton, you have to do a lotta thinking. Which again is why these smaller teams represent more of a challenge in my view. The hard part is to make that tactic that suits your squad.

Rashidi1 has written an insightful guide dealing with this. Give it a read – this guy knows his stuff.

Game 1: Brøndby IF

Well, got the game installed at have now started my first game. I usually play Liverpool as the first game, but decided to change that to my favorites Brøndby. Struggling at the moment in real life, I wanted to show that I can change things. Only played a couple of games, decided to go with a pretty standard 4-4-2 Diamond attacking. Playing with a tall target man seems to do the trick. Will post some results later when I have played about half of the season.

The mother of all tactics discussions

If you ended up here, its likely that you know wwfan’s TT&F threads on SI Forums. If you do not, please go and read the thread, because this is essential in understanding just how FM2007 works, and also because this is the post you have to read (and not this blog).

In depth

One good tip when assuming the role as a new manager (especially when you do not choose to manage your favorite team and thus only having little or no knowledge of your players) is to draw up a depth chart. If you absoultely no idea what I’m talking about, take at look at this one.

Depth charts are commonly used in American sports, establishing an overview of how the individual positions are covered. Basically, the starters are on top, backup players are listed below on each position. This is a great way to determine where your squad needs to be strengthend, and it presents you with an overview of your current squad. As you can see, all players are listed on their respective positions, and if we are to “translate” this to the european version of football, we would take the tactics that we plan to play, and then write down our choices for each position. Much the way you see it, when you ask your assistant for a team report clicking “Get Team Report”. All you need is a piece of paper and a pencil (your first choices will probably change over the course of a season:)).

Hello world

Hi. Another day another blog. The aim of this blog is to collect my personal thoughts and experiences with the brand new Football Manager 2007. There are a lot of websites out there, and this one aims to be one of the smaller, mostly concentrating on the best tactics for your game. I only got the game today, and will install it tonight. I will then publish my first impressions. Best.
